Good Attention Getters for Speeches

Do you want to catch the audience's attention in an instant?

Maybe a magic word to make everyone listen attentively to every single word that comes out of your mouth?

You must be able to capture the listener's attention in the first few seconds of your speech and good attention getters for speeches do just that!

1. Give a Bold Statement

I have a dream! These are considered the most famous words in the world of public speaking, spoken by Martin Luther King. Instantly, from the energy and passion used to say a catch phrase, your listener's become enticed.

  • Give a bold statement, and your listener's will be eager to see how you back up such a bold statement in the rest of your speech, such as "Anyone can get big biceps fast!!" or "You won't believe what material is needed for the best pots and pans!"

2. Tell a Story

By introducing an interesting story, your audience will want to know what happened next, and how things play out. 

  • "Just as I thought, the boy did exactly what we said..." 
Everyone will want to know what the boy did and what was it that you said
  • "Everything was calm and then suddenly a shadow approached..."
Who did the shadow belong to? Are you in danger? Guide them through your story so they are constantly on the edge of their seats eager to learn what happens next. You could make up one or use a real life example such as a holiday the previous summer or something funny that happened to you last week.

3. Help the Audience Understand

Use comparing adjectives like similes or metaphors to help them understand what you are saying. Relate your topic to your audience. Most of the audience won't be interested in the employment policies but they could be more interested in how these policies will affect every single one of them personally. You could use everyday items such as : even warmer than a sheepskin jacket or more versatile than even the best pots and pans

Ask yourself, would you be more interested if someone else you would never meet could win lotto, or if you could win lotto?

4. Your Delivery

Be enthusiastic in the way you deliver your killer and attention getting line. Don't mumble or say it without any energy or else the audience will receive it without any enthusiasm either. Use your voice smartly, vary your tone and start of with a bang.

You could even yell the first sentence and instantly everyone's neck will snap to your attention and see what in the world is going on! Whatever you do, just don't deliver your speech the same way as all the other speakers or else you will be just that, the same as all the other speakers.
